Kenya Women Finance Trust Launches The Afya Card

Guests applauds during the launchKenya Women Finance Trust (KWFT) in collaboration with other like minded development partners from the private and public sector has launched a medical cover for its clientele that comprise a majority of women entrepreneurs in small medium enterprises.

This is a first 3 in 1 cover of its kind in the micro sector that takes care of, inpatient, personal accident and last respect as most covers are awarded to those on formal employment. With a mere ten shillings per day, KWFT clients can get the annual cover for the entire family. Already 4, 227 clients and their families are currently covered and KWFT plans to increase the numbers of families covered to 60,000 by the end of the year. This is a countrywide medical scheme offered through KWFT 123 field offices.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Jennifer Riria, KWFT CEO said, "This is a milestone for KWFT as we do not only serve our clients through access to finance but also pay great attention to credit plus services that empower and address other family concerns in their daily lives. The KWFT Afya card is a unique cover that offers practical and affordable solution to KWFT clients and their families. KWFT cares for the health of its clients for healthy businesses and has the infrastructure and capacity to reach majority of families' access affordable healthcare in the country".

CEO-GOHSpeaking at the same launch, the Minister for Medical Services Hon. Prof. Peter Anyang Nyongo who graced the launch as the guest of honour commended KWFT for the initiative, "I take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to KWFT for complementing government efforts in provision of affordable nationwide health care in line with vision 2030. A medical cover for SME's has been long over due and l commend KWFT for being the first to launch one".

KWFT is the largest national micro-finance institution with an aim of accessing sustainable financial and non- financial services to economically active, low income women entrepreneurs. It is for this reason that all products and activities are designed for women entrepreneurs to improve their social and economic status and those of their families. KWFT serves women in both urban and rural areas through its National network of 121 offices.
